How to read your estimate
Once the calculator returns a kWh figure, you can use it in several ways:

- Sanity-check your current bill: if your supplier estimates 8 000 kWh/year but your real consumption is closer to 5 000, you may be over-paying monthly instalments.
- Plan a meter change: heavy night-time users (more than 30% of consumption off-peak) may benefit from a dual-rate meter instead of a single-rate meter.

Yes. Both electricity and gas consumption are expressed in kWh per year. In Belgium, gas is billed in kWh (not m³) on your final invoice — the supplier applies a conversion factor to your meter index. This makes it easier to compare offers side by side regardless of fuel type.
This calculator does not yet model heat pumps or solar self-consumption. If you own a heat pump, electricity consumption for heating will typically be 3 to 4 times lower than the figure shown here (because the heat pump multiplies electrical input). If you have solar panels, your grid consumption will be lower than the total consumption shown — only the difference between production and use is billed. Insulation directly affects heating consumption. A well-insulated home loses heat much more slowly, so it needs less energy to maintain comfort. The difference between "insulated" and "not insulated" can reach 20% on the heating component alone in our formulas.
